Booglinee is a two-act musical comedy about Kai, a curious young engineer who joins

Silicon Valley's hottest fictional tech company to help support his family — and

discovers its efficiency-obsessed leadership hiding an AI initiative with real human

consequences. With an eccentric group of coworkers, Kai must decide how much he's willing to risk to expose it. Absurd workplace satire, character comedy, and sincere emotional storytelling across 24 original songs.

The cast will record a scripts-in-hand staged reading over three days at a recording studio in Oakland. The production uses multi-camera video, studio-grade multitrack audio, and projected scenic artwork. The footage — including behind-the-scenes and process footage — will be edited into a documentary/performance film intended for festival submission and theatrical-development presentations.

• Sunday, September 6 includes a performance for a small invited audience — kept deliberately small so the room stays friendly.
• The capture is split across two weekends, providing vocal recovery time and room for music adjustments between sessions.

13 principal performers — actor-singers across a range of vocal demands, ages 18+, with expressive script-in-hand acting, comedic instincts, and the ability to learn music quickly from supplied recordings and scores. Most performers play multiple characters. We welcome performers of any gender whose voice fits a track; all ethnicities and backgrounds encouraged. Reasonable accommodations are available for auditions, callbacks, and the engagement — just ask. Bay Area local hire — no travel or housing provided.

• Fully notated piano-vocal scores are supplied for every number, along with reference recordings for melodies, pacing, and comedic timing.
• Some concept demos use AI-generated vocals and accompaniment; all cast vocals in the filmed reading will be newly performed and recorded by the actors.
• Cast members receive scripts, scores, track assignments, and reference recordings with their offer.
• Any producer-assigned individual coaching sessions or optional extra rehearsals are scheduled and paid separately.
• You are expected to arrive at the first studio date familiar with your assigned scenes and musically prepared on your assigned numbers, using the supplied scores and recordings.

Lead. A curious young engineer and compulsive tinkerer whose desire to support his family collides with his growing suspicion that Booglinee is harming the people it claims to serve. Earnest, funny, and emotionally open.

A cranky but highly capable Booglinee veteran who has survived every reorganization and reluctantly becomes one of Kai's mentors.

A brilliant scientist whose belief in ethical innovation puts her in direct conflict with Booglinee's leadership. Intellectually formidable and increasingly willing to fight.

Booglinee's chillingly efficient COO and the musical's central antagonist. Charismatic enough to command a room, ruthless enough to treat human consequences as spreadsheet errors. Requires authority, precision, and dark comic instincts.

A flashy salesperson who thrives on ego and success. An earnest, energetic clown you can root for.

Booglinee’s top closing salesman treats every hallway conversation like a keynote. All confidence, no filter—he is so sincere in his own hype that he becomes weirdly lovable, until one quiet beat reveals what the swagger has been covering. The show’s purest performative comedy, and a scene-stealing track for a performer who can commit fully to Chad’s self-created mythology. Envisioned as a tech bro, but open to your creative shaping. Key songs: “This Could Have Been an Email” and “Dude She Thinks You’re Cute.”

A politically agile middle manager who survives by agreeing with whoever spoke most recently; plus a wide-eyed new hire and an exec.

Doubling follows the script's Character Mapping Recommendation. [S] = singing role; [OS] = optional singing role. Productions with larger casts may split tracks.

Sunny — Booglinee's founding CEO — will be assigned to Track 3 or Track 11 depending on casting.

The roles of Effoff/Alfred and the Coffee Machine are voiced via pre-recorded audio and do not require casting.

Paid covers: we expect to cast two or more paid covers for selected principal tracks. Covers receive the same compensation structure as principals — see Compensation below — and participate fully in the company read-through, assigned-track preparation, and all three studio dates, performing only if activated; a cover may not end up performing in the September 6 presentation. Track assignments are specified before acceptance.

All ranges are sounding pitch; middle C = C4. These reflect the current draft — a few keys and part assignments are still being adjusted for singer comfort during music preparation, so if you're close on range, please submit anyway. (Ranges last updated: August 9, 2026.)

Kai — Tenor/high baritone. Core B♭2–A♭4, with one brief G2. One or two optional climactic notes above in full voice (to B♭4), and one number rises to D5, where mix or falsetto is welcome.

Jordan — Tenor/high baritone. Core B2–G♯4, with one optional A4 above (falsetto welcome).

Chad — Baritone. B♭2–G4.

Mira — Mezzo-soprano to soprano. F3–C5; exact range confirmed at callbacks.

Brad / Kai's Dad (one track) — Baritenor. C3–A♭4, with occasional A4.

Figdar (any gender) — Powerful, theatrical villain voice with a sustained upper register. Voice type is flexible, and keys will be finalized to fit the selected performer; exact range provided at callbacks.

Sean, Tom, Cheryl, Taylor, and the remaining singing tracks — Written in a baritone-to-tenor range; sing at pitch or at whichever octave is comfortable for your voice. Some tracks may call for an upper mix or falsetto extension. Per-track details will be provided at callbacks.

Three full studio days (calls up to 8 hours, inclusive of a meal break):

Aug 29 + Sept 5–6 (Labor Day weekend) — you must be available for all three. One paid

~2-hour remote company read-through the week of Aug 24; arrive at the studio familiar with your assigned scenes and musically prepared on your numbers, using the supplied materials.

Principals: $600 guaranteed gross through payroll for the three studio dates; the read-through and any assigned coaching are paid separately

Covers: the same $600 guaranteed gross as principals, for full participation across all three studio days — performing only if activated

On-screen credit and mutually approved reel excerpts after the film's initial

festival-submission window

This is not a union production; union members are responsible for confirming their eligibility to participate under their union's rules.

The performer release will authorize recording and use of your contribution in the completed documentary/performance film, including festival exhibition, industry presentations, promotional excerpts, and distribution, along with use of your name, likeness, and bio in credits and promotion. It will also allow use of your recorded performances in a potential human-performed cast demo of the show's songs — for development and pitching purposes, and potentially for public release. The release covers only your actual recorded performances — it will not authorize creation of a digital replica or synthetic version of your voice or likeness, and any such use would require a separate written agreement. The complete release accompanies any offer and may be reviewed before you accept — you will not be asked to sign anything before seeing it. This summary is provided for convenience; the signed release governs.

Credit: every cast member is credited in the finished film and on any publicly released cast demo. Covers receive a cover credit whether or not they are activated.

Reels: after the film's initial festival-submission window, cast members may use mutually approved excerpts featuring their own filmed performances in personal reels, subject to any festival-premiere restrictions.

Send a viewable link (YouTube, Vimeo, Drive, Dropbox) rather than a large attachment,

with permissions enabled.

There is no fee to audition or participate at any stage. Auditions and callbacks are unpaid and are used solely for casting evaluation — audition and callback recordings will not appear in the film or any public material, and will not be used to train AI systems, without your separate written consent.

1. Round one: submit a 60–90-second video of existing singing material per the checklist above — no Booglinee material required.
2. Virtual callbacks: scheduled on a rolling basis August 13–18; selected performers receive a short scene and a musical excerpt from the show.
3. Offers: may follow each performer's callback, with final principal offers targeted for August 19 and cast completion by Thursday, August 20. Materials are delivered the day of each offer so preparation time is maximized. Cover casting may finalize by approximately August 22. Late submissions may be considered for any roles still uncast.
